FAQs
What equipment do you use?
I am presently shooting two mirrorless canon cameras, the r5 and the r6. I switched to mirrorless at the end of 2021 and have to say I love them both. I usually shoot a 35mm on one body and an 85mm on the other. Occasionally I’ll switch to a 50 mm and 135mm combination and I also have a 24-70 in the kit bag. I tend to stay away from flash until the evening do begins, though occasionally particularly in hotels I may stick flashes on earlier.
Are the images edited?
All the images are edited to make the pictures look like my work. I tend not to do too much airbrushing though any accidental double chins I’ll try my best to remove.
How long do I have to wait to see the images?
My contract says 3 months and it can take this long in busy times but I aim to get them back within a month.
What is your style?
Relaxed, natural, candid documentary.
Do you have a second shooter?
I usually shoot alone although I have a few different photographers I can call upon as a second shooter if you would like one. Additional costs are incurred.
Do I back the images up?
Yes I do back up the images. Both my cameras have dual memory card slots so if a memory card fails it should be fine on the other card. When I get home I then back the images up to two separate external hard drives before deleting them off the memory cards. Once the images have been delivered I keep two copies for 3 months and all the images on one hard drive for at least 12 months.
When is the best time for a pre wed shoot?
Same as the consultation, 6-8 weeks is about right but you don’t want to leave it less than a month. I tend to prefer to do these weekdays as I do have limited weekend time. When the clocks change always seems to be a good time to try and get these in as it fits with everyones work schedules and the light is always much softer that time of evening.
How long before a wedding do we have a consultation?
I tend to recommend about 6-8 weeks is about right. Or anytime before you finalise all your timings with the venue.
How many group shots do I need?
I recommend 6-8, parents, siblings, grandparents and then your ushers and bridesmaids. Some people say they really don’t want any but I’d always say its worth getting your parents at the very least as although I will try my best to get a good natural one of you all there is no guarantee. If you are close to your extended family you might want to have more but be prepared for jaw ache. I’ll happily shoot as many as you want but as a general rule of thumb its about 2 minutes per picture. If you do want to keep these short it is also always worth having the chat with parents before the wedding day to determine what you want.
When do you like to do couples photos and how long?
n an ideal world I like to do couples pictures as the guests are being seated for the wedding breakfast allowing you maximum time with your guests and before you’ve had too many shandy’s for 5-10 minutes. And then in the summer grabbing you again for another 5 - 10 minutes for some pictures in some golden light as the sun begins to drop. All of this is talked over in the consultation and I can devise a plan for as long as you want.
Do I work with videographers?
Yes yes and yes. I love working with different videographers, particularly when the styles compliment each other. Its someone to bounce ideas off and more often than not adds something different to a shoot.
