So it’s that time of year again when I finally get a chance to take a look back at last year and produce a few blogs before the wedding season well and truly gets started again. So keep your eyes peeled this is hopefully the first of a few mega weddings I shot last year. Most of my work tends to revolve around the Lake District but I actually now live in Yorkshire and it was great to get to shoot in ‘God’s country’ for a change. I can’t say I’ve explored too much of the county, again generally tending to travel North. But after visiting this little village I can see where the nickname ‘Gods country’ comes, for this was, miles upon miles of beautiful rolling countryside basking in one of the rare sunny days of last summer.
Hidden away amongst it is this absolute gem of a venue. Saddle Rooms is tucked away just outside Leyburn and though it doubles up with the Forbidden Corner, the wedding party is perfectly secluded on the lawns of the house. The wedding breakfast is offered in a stunning room with incredible natural light and the grand oak and cute little bridge on the pond offers the perfect backdrop for bridal portraits.
Hayley and John chose to wed here, living just down the road. The wedding was a classic Yorkshire affair with plenty of phrases such as ‘chuffin hell, it’s crackin’t’ flags’ and ‘aye up lass’ been thrown around. It really was the perfect day, I couldn’t have been made to feel anymore welcome and laughter filled every room all day long. Arriving by horse and cart and being met by what appeared to be the whole village Hayley couldn’t have been more excited. It was the story of the day really, John and Hayley smiling ear to ear, a string quartet entertaining the guests, canopies and feasts consumed and plenty of ale downed.
