It’s not often you turn up at a wedding and hear the bride say, she is ‘glad it’s not sunny, it could rain, it’ll make for dramatic photos.’ No kidding, for this was a typically unsettled late autumn day in the Lakes. I for one was loving it, especially when I heard Holly say this and knew how game she and Scott would be to embrace the elements…
Before we got to go out in the wild, there was the small matter of getting married at the wildly romantic and blissfully secluded Low Hall the Lakes. I love the full elopement package they offer here, simply described by many as ‘the best date you’ll ever go on,’ everything is catered for too ensure that though you may not be catering for a hundred guests, you are simply not missing out on all the details or the quality. Since Covid I’ve been lucky enough to shoot a growing number of these elopements and I’ve got to say ‘I LOVE THEM.’
This was no different, a wedding ceremony, in the ridiculously romantic library. Just a little natural light seeped through the cottage window overlooking the lakeland fells. Surrounded by flowers and candles, Holly and Scott said their ‘I do’s’, to the sound of a cracking fire with just the registrar and a couple of witnesses. A spectacular wedding cake and a glass of fizz awaited the conclusion.
A small drive through Lorton to Crummock water led us to some spectacular views down the valley before we headed part way up the Rannerdale Knotts. Thinking we may get caught in one hell of a down pour, I must say I was slightly sceptical whether it was a good or bad idea. But on getting to our viewing platform we soon realised it was most definitely a great idea, the light coming through the torrential rain less than a mile away was everything and more you’d want from a dramatic backdrop.
We were down just in time to grab some shots by the lake before the heavens opened upon us and scooted back off to Low Hall where Holly and Scott enjoyed a romantic meal for two expertly cooked by @_SmokeandSteel under candlelight and back in front of the library’s open fire.
